It occurred to me during today’s quiet time that Jesus never explicitly said that He is the Son of God.
That got me wondering, then who said that? A few that come to mind:
- John the Baptist (John 1:29-35)
- God the Father (Mat. 3:17)
- [in fear] the Legion of demons (Mark 5:7-9)
- Peter (Mat. 16:16)
- The High Council of Jewish Priests. (Luke 22:66-71)
- The Roman Centurion at the crucifixion. (Mark 15:39)
It strikes me that someone with so much authority did not need to tell people who He was. Others did that for Him. He didn’t need other people’s assurance either. He knew who He was. Contrast that to the many cults and heresies with their self-proclaimed prophets and messiahs who day after day need to bombard their followers with propaganda guarding the exclusivity of their religion. They live in fear that their falsehoods will be revealed.
Faith isn’t living in fear of other religions, teachings, or beliefs. Nor does faith require your rally to battle in offense when someone blasphemes against your God. Faith is the quiet confidence in the ultimate sovereignty of the Lord, knowing that His authority can never be challenged nor removed.
